Eleanor Macnair's 'Photographs Rendered in Play-Doh'

2014-06-19 1

Give anyone a blob of Play-Doh and you can be sure that he or she, whether a kid or an adult, would be able to transform it into something else – say, an animal figure or a type of food. In Eleanor Macnair’s case, however, she makes one of the most excellent renderings of Play-Doh we’ve seen so far by using them to remake photographs!

Eleanor Macnair is the creative mind behind the Tumblr blog *Photographs Rendered in Play-Doh*. The title’s pretty much self-explanatory, and Macnair shapes her clay creations with only “a pint glass as a rolling pin and a blunt Ikea knife,” according to an interview with AnOther. She was said to have done it the first time “for a round at a pub quiz.”

Macnair recreates both famous and non-famous photographs, and even commissions and requests provided that they follow a few rules that she has set. These include things that she can actually translate into Play-Doh, not doing renderings of the dead “because it just doesn’t seem right,” and porn. But the thing is, Macnair intends to stop once she’s reached 100 creations “otherwise it could just go on and on…” she was quoted as saying.
