Photo of the Day by atropaworkshop

If you’re that kind of person who enjoys getting a good scare once in a while, atropaworkshop took just the right photo to make your hair stand on its ends!

When we think of Lomographs, we may easily think of fun and colorful shots. There’s nothing wrong with that, in fact we all love it here in the community! Yet there is always room for different shots and atropaworkshop just spooked us with this one… in a totally good way! We love how the ghostly presence of the arms gives this winning POTD a perfect kick of fright in the right direction. This photo was taken using a Praktica MTL5. You can see more photos from atropaworkshop in this album.

Congratulations to atropaworkshop for winning Photo of the Day!

Cinematographer Michal Dabal on the Petzval Lens

Here’s what happens before we interview a photographer. We gush about the work though we have yet to find out the cameras and processes behind the brilliant composition or the light architecture. And even when they haven’t used a Lomo camera, we feature them anyway. But every once in a while comes a pro who uses one of our premium lenses at work and our fun cameras off-duty. This makes us mighty glad, more so when their images are good and worth sharing. We count cinematographer Michal Dabal's work among them.

Inspiring and Daring Women in Contemporary Photography (Part I)

We love a striking photo as much as the next person, but a unique point of view makes us head straight to a feature. Who should the world know more about? Who has rocked our perception of beauty, sexuality and creativity? These questions populate our notepads, and our list of photographers is quite long. For International Women's Day 2016, we whittle the directory down to our current favorites, photographers who resist labels (even the ones we give them) and dare the world to see what they see.

Lomography celebrates just about anything by means of pictures. And so while we have baked cakes for Grandparents Day, we also scoured archives for heartwarming photos of grandpas, grandmas and their brood. We just want to prove that hanging out with the folks never goes out of style.

At the end of October last year, René Burri, a great master of photography of the last century, passed away. As a tribute to him, I would like to show you some photos that I took last month at EXPO 2015 in Milan, which was inspired by his series featuring the world's fairs held in Osaka, Okinawa, and Montreal. Estonian Intersections of Sight and Sound

Would you rather lose your vision or your hearing? As photographers, we might choose the latter without a second thought, especially while viewing the festival photos that photographer Mart Vares captured with the New Petzval 85 Lens. Still, who doesn’t love the pleasant mechanical shutter sound of an old SLR that makes us commit to analog photography? While following the Nordic delegation at this years Waves Central Europe, we caught up with the Estonian band, Würffel, whose songs leave us feeling equally delighted.

Gommorah Girl: An Interview with Valerio Spada

Valerio Spada went beyond his comfort zone and stepped right into the battlefield with his camera. He went to Naples, Italy, an area populated by the Camorra Mafia but also home to Annalisa Durante who, at the age of 14, was killed by a bullet aimed at a Camorra boss. What happened to her could've happened to any of the girls portrayed in the book Gommorah Girl. This work is about Annalisa. It's about all of the girls that, just like her, seem doomed to an unfair destiny - which, hopefully, may still change.
