Film Battle: Kodak EIR vs. LomoChrome Purple - A Short Comparison

2014-06-20 3

I made a short comparison between the “legendary” Kodak EIR Infrared film and the new LomoChrome Purple XR 100-400. Both pictures were made with the same camera-objective-combi: A Canon AE-1 Program with a 24mm wide-angle lens.

As you can probably see on the first photo, the Kodak EIR has color shades that range from pink to red. With the next photo you can see that the LomoChrome Purple has more expressive purple shades.

Here are some more pictures for you to see the difference:

LomoChrome Purple XR 100-400:

All in all I would say, there is a sharp distinction between these two films, but I really like the uniqueness of each film especially since the LomoChrome Purple shouldn´t be just a copy of the Kodak film. The LomoChrome Purple holds up well on its own.

The most unbelievable fact for me is that the whole emulsion of the LomoChrome was completely manipulated so all the colors change with each shot. I really love this characteristic of the LomoChrome Purple.

Do your agree with this? What do you think?

Happy searching for nice pictures

You can buy the film from now in the Lomography Online Shop. The LomoChrome Purple is a unique Infrared CN film that turns your Lomography world to a color adventure. Look for some photos in our community. If you liked the Kodak Aerochrome films, you´d like the LomoChrome Purple too.

Kodak EIR will always be the best false colour IR film ever made! It's a shame they didn't keep pushing it out

Comparing Lomochrome the EIR is like comparing lomo and professional photographic film. Lomochrome is one EIR is different. There are two different experiences. It's sad that the EIR is no longer manufactured.
