She is is no stranger to the Lomo community. She previously took photos during New York Fashion Week using the New Petzval Lens, and shared her experience through this interview. Today Driely S speaks of days spent at the world-famous Coachella Festival, and how she captured festival scenes with the Russar+.
Hi. What were you doing at Coachella?
I was covering Streetstyle and festival fashion. Believe it or not, that is a thing now.
How is the experience of being on the Coachella backstage working instead of dancing and having fun with friends?
Coachella kicked my butt! I knew it would be hot, but I did not think I would be that miserable. Shooting under the desert sun from 10 am until 8 pm is intense! By the time it was night and I actually had time to enjoy some of the music, I was so extenuated from walking all day with heavy equipment on my neck that my body just gave up. I barely got to see any music. I did get a kick of watching the young kids freak out on drugs. Teenagers can be quite entertaining to photograph in this type of environment. The good side is that everyone wants to be photographed. The bad side is that you will have to deal with a lot of drunk photobombers, they are everywhere like a plague!
What do you think of the new Russar+ lens?
I LOVE how wide I was able to get! Especially when shooting on stage. It really captured the environment beautifully and allowed me to get in the action without missing anything.
What is your favorite picture taken with the lens?
Solange owned every inch of that stage and the Russar+ made her look larger than life. Can’t pick just one.
Any tips you want to share for those who want to shoot the Russar+ lens?
SHOOT FROM THE HIP! This is such a fun lens to use because it allows you to jump in the middle of the action and shoot away! Dare to get close!
What was the best show for you during the Coachella weekend?
From the little I got to see I would have to say the Pixies. After photographing rich kids running drunk all day being careless about music, it restored my faith in humanity seeing the entire crowd sing along. And Dev Hynes is just a living genius, always blowing my mind.
