Spring is my favorite season. I cannot get enough of the colors and smells that suddenly fill the world all around. Everything is blossoming and coming back to life.
I especially love all the flowers popping up everywhere. Despite the hay fever that many of them cause, I cannot resist the urge to go out in search of them. Just to sniff at the scents in the air and take pictures of all the spring blossom. So if you see a highly suspicious-looking character somewhere in the woods carrying analogue cameras and sneezing constantly, that’s probably me. You can find me somewhere in the midst of the flowering trees while trying to capture their beauty on film. It isn’t always easy. But it is worth it in the end. Sneezing and all taken into account.
Spring usually sneaks up on me. Defeated by a long and dark winter, I tend to forget how it feels to see blue skies and to have the sun on my face. And then one day, I walk outside and straight into the full bloom all around. Where did it come from? It is as if overnight everything came alive again. Quickly I load my different cameras with film and head outside. I know this time of blossom will not last forever. There is no time to waste.
I take so many pictures of flowers, almost as if to ensure that at least in these captured memories, spring will last? Now that my archives are already full of pictures of flowers, I have started to take portraits of my friends with the flowers. I also find that flowers are great for double exposures. This is something that I will experiment with more in the future.
