DIY Film Canister Chess Set

2014-01-21 1

In the unlikely event you ran out of ideas to do with empty film canisters, here’s another!

This, in my opinion, is one of the most interesting DIY projects to do with film canisters. It’s easy to do, extremely reusable, and is just plain cool.

Materials:

  • 24 film canisters. Ideally, you want to divide them into 2 opposite colors (white & black, green & red, etc.)
  • A chess board
  • Hot glue gun
  • Limbs and heads from surplus toys

Instructions:

  • Separate the toy parts and designate which ones go to which chess pieces (king, queen, pawns, etc.)
  • Glue them on the film canisters
  • Play with it!

    Tipster: DIY X-Pro Redscale

Browsing through the Lomography website, you can find a lot of redscale shots, which are all done on color negative films. I asked myself if it’s possible to redscale a slide or chrome film and then cross process it. (And yes, it is.) In this tipster I’m going to teach you how to create the bloodiest homemade redscale film I've ever come across.
