DIY Pencil Holder Using Medium Format Spools


Looking for new ways to repurpose your unused medium format film spools? Why don’t you try making a pen holder for your desk at the office?

  • Eighteen film spools
  • Used film (two rolls)
  • CD/DVD
  • Glue gun/glue sticks


  1. Glue the first set of nine film spools standing up in a circle on the CD. Leave some space in between each spool.
  2. Weave film in and out of the spools. Glue at the start and finish off the circle.
  3. Glue the next set of nine spools standing up directly on top of the first set.
  4. Repeat step two.
