Mission Hill Winery, Westbank, British Columbia

A little pocket of the Mediterranean in the mountains of Canada.

My wife is a long distance runner.

I am not. Very much not.

When we travel for a big event, her mind is always on preparations for the big run: where is the starting line, where is the finish line, what is the route elevation, etc., etc. I, on the other hand, am only thinking two things: which spots would be good lomolocations, and where can I find a cold beverage?

While studying the route for the Okanagan Marathon last fall, we somehow found ourselves at the gates of the Mission Hill Winery – surprised?

I’ve never been off of the North American continent, but this place had a very Mediterranean feel to it. From the vistas, to the bold architecture, to the rolling hills covered in grape vines, I felt as if I had left my country for another.

To my dismay, they winery did not offer free wine tastings like many others in the area, but we didn’t want to leave without trying something. We paid the fee and shared the samples, and then went on our merry way to find our next adventure.
