Photo of the Day by istionojr

One of the most amazing things about shooting analogue photos is that you are entitled to pleasant surprises even when you thought everything’s going to be messed up.

Credits: istionojr

Istionojr’s winning photo is a perfect example of the pleasant surprises film photography presents. It was taken using a *Holga 120 CFN Jack Edition* loaded with *Lomography Lady Grey 400 120 film.* He developed the roll himself. Here’s what he has to say about the photo:

I really have no idea what was happened with my first try a 120mm film roll ever. The emulsion is already damaged when it see with naked eye, the negative is dirty with scrambled black stain, and the exposed images are covered by the pattern on the backing paper. Was all those glitch due to my self develop? I used a paper developer for this time. *fingers crossed. [sic]

Congratulations, *istionojr* for being our Photo of the Day winner.

I have heard from our Lomo shop that there has been a batch of Lomography Lady Grey 400 (120 format only) which had a production failure. The backing paper has been applied at a too high temperature, which causes the imprint of the backing paper on the film.

I am not quite sure why Lomography calls this failure "a pleasant surprise"? You should be able to return or exchange this film, unless you actually like the results of course!

Long Exposures Around Europe with the Minitar-1 Art Lens

One of the things I like the most about the Minitar-1 Art lens is how sharp the focus can be when you shoot with a small aperture. So if you are one of those that like to shoot at night, get a tripod, add this to a late dark winter afternoon, and you will end up with a bunch of beautiful long exposures. This is what I did on my last trip to Europe.

    Photographic Pairs

When a photographer encounters a pair, an instinct rushes in, "Is this a special, intimate moment I just stumbled on?" Or else, those accidents of two objects, two birds, two swaying plants camping together especially for your photo. This might not be the case, but it's still a pleasant thing for patterns and quirks to find their way into an everyday shot.

Estonian Intersections of Sight and Sound

Would you rather lose your vision or your hearing? As photographers, we might choose the latter without a second thought, especially while viewing the festival photos that photographer Mart Vares captured with the New Petzval 85 Lens. Still, who doesn’t love the pleasant mechanical shutter sound of an old SLR that makes us commit to analog photography? While following the Nordic delegation at this years Waves Central Europe, we caught up with the Estonian band, Würffel, whose songs leave us feeling equally delighted.
