“I felt like I was capturing the soul of an old man, sitting in grandeur waiting for his eventual death.” – Erwin Tan

Waiting for Time (National Stadium)
Featuring Photography Works by Erwin Tan

Opening Reception: Friday, 6th Dec 2013, 7pm
Exhibition on until Thursday, 19th Dec 2013

Supported by Gryphon Tea Company and Kim Tian Colour Centre

Chancing upon the old National Stadium amidst a mild drizzle on the way home from work, Erwin was struck by the dilapidation and loneliness of the place and decided to make a detour to capture it.

Since then he has embarked on a life long journey to photograph buildings in Singapore awaiting to be torn down, such as the East Coast McDonald’s at Marine Cove, Margaret Drive Estate and Henry Park Estate, and he plans to travel around Asia to archive buildings facing a similar fate through his lens.

ALL are welcome! RSVP here.

Artist Talk by Erwin Tan
Saturday, 7th December 2013, 5 - 7 pm

Photographer Erwin Tan will be discussing his thoughts and his creative process which led him to embark on his Waiting for Time series, as well as the difficulties he faced trying to access the interior of the Old National Stadium to shoot.

Having recently shot on the Lubitel 166+ at the new National Stadium that is currently under construction, he will also be sharing his experiences with composition via the, at first disorientating top-down viewfinder, and with pacing himself with 12 to 24 shots on medium format film, compared to his usual 300 to 500 shots on a DSLR.

Admission is FREE! Email shopsingapore@lomography.com to register.

About the artist

A banker/oil trader turned photographer/visual artist, photography is Erwin's third (sometimes first) language, a medium of self‐expression. He seeks to find different angles of the same story, trying to find the most fundamental emotion of the subject matter and translating the final output through his own interpretation. He also shoots a wide range of photography including events, weddings and commercial projects. This is his first solo exhibition.

See you at the Opening Reception on the 6th at 7pm, as well as the Artist Talk on the 7th at 5pm!
