Humanizing with Greg Bojorquez

It’s so easy to take photos of bad things like beggars and other less fortunate people than us. Photographer Greg Bojorquez wants to go beyond that and instead, humanize each portrait he takes.

A good photographer records; a great photographer reveals. Greg Bojorquez, who uses a Mamiya RZ67 medium format film camera for his portrait work, aims to create art which shows the humanity of his subjects. Hailing from the “bad part” of Los Angeles, it would be easy to stick with gangbanger shots but he instead focused on the community aspect of portraiture, opting to show the flip side of his subject’s.

“If i can photograph normal everyday people and make a great portrait out of it that is humanizing and that people from other cultures will like, I feel that I am succeeding in a different way.” – Greg Bojorquez
