Monday Moodboard: Emma Allen’s Astounding Stop Motion Video on Reincarnation

Today’s weekly dose of inspiration comes in the form of artist Emma Allen’s beautiful 75-second stop motion piece, “Ruby!”

Not all of us may believe in it, but we do know more or less about the concept of reincarnation. But if you were asked to define it without going through all the technicalities and in the most entertaining and creative way that you know, how would you go about it?

Emma Allen, a London-based multidisciplinary artist whose forte is face and body painting, decided to employ all her skills to discuss reincarnation. “Ruby” is a self-portrait “exploring the idea of rebirth and illustrating the transfer of energy from incarnation to another.” For five whole days, Allen created fanciful illustrations on her face using only “some face paints, a mirror, and a camera.”

While the result is a pretty much straightforward explanation of a foreign concept, “Ruby” definitely encourages out-of-the-box thinking!
