Tran Nguyen Paints Larger-Than-Life Women and Buildings

Young artist Tran Nguyen’s surreal, new paintings are, as The Roq La Rue Gallery has put it, “meticulously rendered, serene imagery that reveal a complex psychological current flowing beneath.”

Nguyen’s latest body of work, A Place Procured from Our Yesteryears, was put on exhibit just last August the Roq La Rue Gallery in Seattle, Washington alongside fellow artist Jason Wheatley’s *Osmosis*. Nguyen’s collection was composed of black and white and colored paintings, as well as monochromatic sketches.

Here are some of Nguyen’s paintings from “A Place Procured from Our Yesteryears,” all taken from its preview page on Blogspot.

‘A Sentimental Swallow’ (acrylic and colored pencil)
‘A Place We Once Homed 2’ (acrylic and colored pencil)
‘Bedridden Mementos’ (acrylic and colored pencil)
‘A Cornered Keepsake Sketch’ (graphite on bristol)
‘Sleeping With Nostalgia Sketch’ (acrylic and colored pencil)

Born in Vietnam, Nguyen was raised in the US and is now based in Georgia. She holds a BFA degree in Illustration from the Savannah College of Art and Design, where she graduated in 2009. Using colored pencils and thin glazes of diluted acrylic on paper, Nguyen is “fascinated with creating visuals that can be used as a psycho-therapeutic support vehicle, exploring the mind’s dreamscape.”

Since graduating from college, Nguyen has already held three solo exhibitions and about 30 group exhibitions.
