Lomographers Around the World. Barcelona with Cohetesnaranjas

1

What better travel guide than a local friend to get to know a city?! Today Cohetesnaranjas shares with us the best tips ever so that we can make the most of our next visit to Barcelona.

We don’t want to sound hackneyed but… the touristic must-do in Barcelona is:

The Tibidabo, an old amusement park that still keeps its essence and affords the best views over the city.

Once this is done, what museum, gallery, or cultural center should we visit?

The Macba. The building, its location and programme make it my favorite one.

In which area/neighborhood/streets can we enjoy a lovely Lomo-walk?

Mercat del Borne, el Raval, Ciutat Vella o Gracia are good choices to discover the essence of the city. However, to take some pics, Poble Nou is the one I like the most.

We love food tourism! We can’t leave without having tried…? Where?

They aren’t typical from anywhere, but meringues just make my day. Those from Jaume’s patisserie are amazing.

And if we get on the party mood, where should we go?

La Fonoteca Barcelona – always a good excuse to listen to good music. Its concerts usually are either in Begood or Sala Underground. Otherwise el Apolo always is a win. If you prefer small and cozy places, Heliogábal is a good place to go out.

Any souvenir worth putting in the suitcase?

In wawas you can find the best souvenirs of the entire city. Super original. If you are looking for a photographic souvenir, you will find it in La Parada.

Your favorite spot in Barcelona is…

Els Jardins Costa i Llobera. A botanic garden which gives shelter to cactus plants of all shapes and colours.

Which photo do we have to take to be able to say we’ve been to Barcelona?

One of Torre Sant Sebastià and its red baskets that link the harbor with Montjuïc. Undoubtedly, an iconic place.

Thanks a lot to cohetesnaranjas. We are looking forward to visiting Barcelona soon!

Inspiring and Daring Women in Contemporary Photography (Part I)

We love a striking photo as much as the next person, but a unique point of view makes us head straight to a feature. Who should the world know more about? Who has rocked our perception of beauty, sexuality and creativity? These questions populate our notepads, and our list of photographers is quite long. For International Women's Day 2016, we whittle the directory down to our current favorites, photographers who resist labels (even the ones we give them) and dare the world to see what they see.

Caleb Savage: Into the Darkroom, Out in the Open

When asked to recall the moment they first became truly interested in photography, most photographers would remember the magical feeling of picking up a hand-me-down or secondhand camera, the thrill of shooting an entire roll through, and the elation upon seeing and holding their first ever set of photographs. Caleb Savage, however, had quite a unique experience. At 10 years old, he had his first taste of working in the darkroom making prints at Boy Scout camp, thereby beginning a more than a decade-long affinity with photography.
