Art auctioneer Christie’s recently auctioned off huge lots of National Geographic’s “The Art of Exploration” collection, which includes a wide variety of work, including NASA photos, Steve McCurry prints, and this whopping set from Edward Curtis=. The whole lot was estimated to fetch $700,000 – $900,000 and it actually sold for $902,500. It included The North American Indian, Portfolios 1-20; and Volumes 1-20, which is full of large format portrait work of American Indians, and documentation of their day to day life.
Now that’s a worthy addition to anyone’s art collection! Now only if I had a spare million Dollars or two… Anyway, here are a few samples of Edward Curtis’ work, for those unfamiliar!
