Basquiat started out as a graffiti artist and used graphic images to interpret the world he lived in. His works of art are still relevant and all the more important, years after his death.

Jean-Michel Basquiat sprayed ideas out of paint cans and spoke of truths by ways of imagery and street poetry. He pioneered the SAMO or ”same old sh*t” movement and even used it for a pseudonym. Basquiat felt different from everybody around him during his early years as an artist. His signature style in depicting feelings of alienation and attitude towards the mainstream and the government got people noticing. He wrote street poetry with his brush and empty cans of paint.
