Speak of classic thrillers and suspense films and you’ll most likely come across Alfred Hitchcock, the iconic director behind many acclaimed films from the 1950s to the 1970s. However, his best known film remains to be Psycho, the 1960 suspense/horror film whose famous shower scene and its blood-curling theme has been terrifying generations of cinephiles.

Therefore, it’s not surprising to find every Hitchcock and Psycho fan to be interested in the making of such an iconic film. This is where the 2012 American comedy-drama biopic Hitchcock comes in.

Based on a non-fiction book entitled Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho by Stephen Rebello, the film, set in 1959, tells about the events, motivations, and ideas that drove Alfred Hitchcock (Anthony Hopkins; yes, the very actor who portrayed Pablo Picasso in a 1996 biopic) to recapture the artistic daring of his younger days. He turns down possibly lucrative film proposals like Casino Royale and instead decides to work on a film adaptation of Psycho, a 1959 novel by Robert Gloch. The biopic also explores the director’s relationship with his wife and collaborator Alma Reville (Helen Mirren) during the making of the film.
