The world remembers Spanish painter Pablo Picasso as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Aside from painting, he has also dabbled in sculpture, print making, ceramics, and stage design. Lovers of art who enjoyed watching Salma Hayek's performance as the Mexican painter Frida Kahlo may also be delighted in watching a 1996 biopic which explores the life, work, and loves of Pablo Picasso.
Surviving Picasso tells the story of the legendary Cubist painter through the eyes of his lover, painter Francoise Gilot, whom he met in Paris during the Nazi occupation of the city. Anthony Hopkins starred as the famous artist, and Natascha McElhone as Francoise. The film also shows other women who had a part in the womanizing Picasso’s life such as Olga Khokhlova (portrayed by Jane Lapotaire), Dora Maar (portrayed by Julianne Moore), Marie-Therese Walter (portrayed by Susannah Harker), and Jacqueline Roque (portrayed by Diane Venora).
