We asked Spanish community member @mochilis to share her collection of cameras with us and she came up with an adorable analogue LomoKino clip of all her dear snapshooters in a stop-motion “Camera Parade!” Now that’s a true Lomographer!
Hi, Rocío a.k.a. mochilis! How did you start collecting film gear?
I bought my first analog camera, after many years using digital, in October 2008. But I really started collecting after I bought my third camera, the Diana Mini, in October 2009. Three cameras is a good number to start a collection and by then I already had a nice amount of rolls too.
Can you itemize every camera, accessory, and film you own?
I’m afraid and astonished when people ask me how many cameras I have because I always forget one or two, so taking pics of my camera collection for this article really helped. Anyway, I never forget mentioning the Holga, which is still one of my favorites, LC-A+, and lately the Praktica, a newcomer that’s giving me beautiful results. There’s also the Sprocket Rocket, La Sardina, Diana F+, Fisheye One and LomoKino which I used to make a movie of my camera parade!
Do you like to use your them or admire them from the shelf?
I like to use them, of course! In fact, I like to flick through my albums and find the cameras I haven’t used in a while, so that I can take them out again. Besides, I don’t like them collecting dust, so I normally store them in one or two (or three) drawers. Cameras are to be used and enjoyed, not to be a piece of decoration!
Will you ever part with your collection?
I had to do it! Not with my entire collection, but with some of them… I’ve moved from Spain to France and I just took the cameras and accessories I could pack (and then my parents brought me more of my dear cameras). It was hard to decide, but finally I have here with me all the cameras I use more often.
Is your collection complete or is there still that “Holy Grail” piece you’re looking for?
Of course it’s not complete! I’m saving up my Piggies for an LC-Wide and I still search every flea market and antique shop for a hidden treasure.
Number of cameras? 22
Number of accessories? 3 flashes, 2 tripods, a set of Holga filters and the LC-A Instant Back+
Number of films? At this moment I’m feeling a bit “poor” in films and looking at my film box makes me sad… This has to change!
Number of years collecting? 4
Biggest buy/most expensive item? My dear Horizon Kompakt bought January this year
Sweetest steal/cheapest scored item? My dearest Praktica MTL. My boyfriend’s sister found it in a flea market and immediately called me. The price was €30, too tempting to say no, but the best thing is that she finally got it for €20, as someone had bought the flash before she could notice!
Most prized possessions/favourites from the collection? Apart from the already mentioned Horizon Kompakt and Praktica, a Nikon F60 that I got as a surprise Christmas present from my boyfriend’s aunt. What a cool family, huh? That Nikon is marvelous. It’s the camera I use when I want the pics to come out perfectly, although it’s not so good for experimenting.
Amount of money spent? Don’t even want to think about it! I’ve been lucky as I got most of my cameras in competitions or paid them with Piggies, but when it comes to money spent on films and developing… That’s a different story.
Thanks for showing us Camera Collection, mochilis!
