Hyperfocal what now? It sounds complicated but it is quite simple if you find the time to understand it. We’ve got a (relatively) short video that explains the ins and outs of hyperfocal shooting!
When you’re using your analogue SLRs with their old lenses, do you find yourself wondering what the other numbers on it represent? Sure, you know the aperture ring but what about those green and yellow numbers? These numbers represent the hyperfocal distance.
Simply put, the hyperfocal distance is the closest distance at which a lens can be focused while keeping objects at infinity acceptably sharp. What does this mean for us analogue shooters? Plenty as it enables us to shoot from the hip with much more accuracy! This is an age-old technique of street shooters. Pre-focus your lens and shoot away without looking at the viewfinder. All you have to do is to make sure that your subject is within the hyperfocal distance.
