On this same day in 1957, the show American Bandstand made its debut on ABC. The music-oriented show was hosted until its final season in 1989 by the late Dick Clark. It featured teenagers dancing to Top 40 music and at least one famous musical act would usually appear on the show to lip-sync one of their hits. It made Dick Clark practically a household name and paved the way for other song and dance shows such as Soul Train and Top of the Pops.
