Picture This: My Moments of Happiness

2013-08-09 2

What are the things that make me happy? Simple: they are the moments of my life shared with other people, whether with a girl, my friends, and also even my students! Take a look!

In my previous article, I explained to you a series of my fun moments of freedom; they are in particular sports activities, life at the beach, adrenaline carousels, flying through the sky in a balloon or parachute! Now, my moments of greatest happiness are the ones where I can share something with other people!

I love to walk with my friends in the street of my city Como:

Sometimes, all together we buy good local food and eat it in a picnic

In this hot summertime, it is a pleasure to taste an ice cream in company of my friends!

I love to share hugs. Here a photo of a free hugs manifestation in my city! In this article I chose the scenes of life that I like, and that I’m glad to see around me.

Chess is my favorite table game from my adolescence: it is always a pleasure to find someone to play a match!

I love to work with my students (I’m a teacher), so it’s always a pleasure to share a smile with a student! Here is a photo taken during Creativity Day, when all the secondary schools of my city organize some creative shows in the pedestrian zone of my city.

It’s a pleasure to build some things with my students: here you can see the building of a “Mini Sling Shot,” a faithful 1:33 model of an adrenaline carousel. Here you can see the works made with my students, and the carousel also!

I love to take off my shoes (and socks too!), to stay barefoot in a sunny day, and take a sunbath in good company!

I love to play some simple games with other people. This photo was taken at the Medieval Festival of my city:

I like to participate to the street parade of my city:

And, to try with other people, making some huge soap bubbles:

Another occasion to meet new friends and to know people is to learn a new sport discipline in a public demonstration:

Finally, there is one last thing that I like, but I cannot do: playing with a dog (I’m allergic to animal fur):

After reading this article, tell me: “What is happiness for you?” Lomo on!

A Hunt for Curios and Wonderful Patterns

Some photographers have an instinct for the unique. Whereas others aim to fashion the ordinary into a singular picture, these hunters are obsessed with what cannot be found elsewhere. They prize an exclusive scoop on architectural patterns, artisan quirks, and objects that stick out of an everyday scene. And when the photographers find them, they will twist and turn to get the most flattering angle. Only right for curiosities that beg to be shared.

Cinematographer Michal Dabal on the Petzval Lens

Here’s what happens before we interview a photographer. We gush about the work though we have yet to find out the cameras and processes behind the brilliant composition or the light architecture. And even when they haven’t used a Lomo camera, we feature them anyway. But every once in a while comes a pro who uses one of our premium lenses at work and our fun cameras off-duty. This makes us mighty glad, more so when their images are good and worth sharing. We count cinematographer Michal Dabal's work among them.

Caleb Savage: Into the Darkroom, Out in the Open

When asked to recall the moment they first became truly interested in photography, most photographers would remember the magical feeling of picking up a hand-me-down or secondhand camera, the thrill of shooting an entire roll through, and the elation upon seeing and holding their first ever set of photographs. Caleb Savage, however, had quite a unique experience. At 10 years old, he had his first taste of working in the darkroom making prints at Boy Scout camp, thereby beginning a more than a decade-long affinity with photography.

Long Exposures Around Europe with the Minitar-1 Art Lens

One of the things I like the most about the Minitar-1 Art lens is how sharp the focus can be when you shoot with a small aperture. So if you are one of those that like to shoot at night, get a tripod, add this to a late dark winter afternoon, and you will end up with a bunch of beautiful long exposures. This is what I did on my last trip to Europe.

How to Develop Photos on Stone in a Darkroom

I have always loved the idea of seeing my photos on stone and other natural materials. So, a few months ago, I began googling how it could be done. This is how I discovered (and fell in love with) liquid emulsion. Liquid emulsion is photographic emulsion which you can melt down and paint on any surface. You can then expose an image and develop it using traditional darkroom chemicals. In this article, I would like to explain the process a little, so that if you are also interested in giving this fun process a go, you can!
