The Pantheon Latin Quarter Paris, France

Have a look at the Pantheon shot in Paris in fall 2009 with my lovely Diana-mini.

The Panthéon is dedicated by “A Grateful Nation” as the resting place for ‘The Great Men’ of France, ‘men’ here being in the sense of ‘people’, for among them and surely one of the greatest is Marie Curie who is entombed under the name Marie Curie-Sklodowska, the latter being her Polish maiden name.

Along with her you will find an assortment of well-known names such as Victor Hugo, Émile Zola and Louis Braille, as well as lesser-known names outside France, such as Jean Moulin, a wartime hero of the Resistance. These notables rest in the crypt.

The Panthéon is designed in a Greek-cross plan, 110-meters long and 85-meters wide, with a massive portico of Corinthian columns, modeled on the Pantheon in Rome, surmounted by a small dome that reaches a height of 83-meters. The dome features three superimposed shells, similar to the St. Paul’s Cathedral in London.
