More press features on the Lomography Petzval (D)SLR Art Lens

We’ve been steadily getting insights and feedback from various websites all over the World Wide Web about our latest venture, the Petzval (D)SLR Lens project. If you’re curious about more of these press features, we’ve got a handful more for you to check out!

Los Angeles Times

The Lomography Petzval 85 millimeter lens, made of brass with Russian-made glass optics with a maximum aperture of f/2.2, has an amazing old-school-like look, so you won’t be confusing this lens with any other in your camera bag unless you want to go with the special edition black model, priced at $500.

The Next Web

Given that the Petzval lens is now pretty hard to find – it was designed to work with cameras in the 19th century, after all – Lomography’s incarnation is a pretty unique chance to experiment with an older and rougher style of portrait photography.

Analog photography experts Lomography have decided to head back to the 19th century to resurrect a popular lens of the era, the Petzval.

What do you get when you take one of the very first and greatest lenses of all time and re-engineer it for the 21st Century? A brand new lens that gives the same fantastic look, sharpness, swirly bokeh effect, artful vigettes and narrow depth of field that the original had with whole lot of history behind it. Lomography has done just that and taken the 19th Century lens and reinvented it to be used on modern day SLR camera bodies.

Lomography launched their project as a Kickstarter campaign, and it’s been wildly successful so far.

In what seems to be a historic move, Lomography launched a Kickstarter campaign to re-purpose the all-brass Petzval Lens, a camera invented in 1840, making it compatible with select Nikon and Panasonic DSLRs… This innovation promises to bring analog and digital technology closer, as in the case with many of Lomography’s initiatives.

The new Lomography Petzval (D)SLR Art Lens is a reinvention of the legendary portrait glass lens that first appeared in the 19th century. Our version is a high-quality glass optic that makes it possible for Canon and Nikon analogue and digital SLR mount cameras to yield the famous Petzval look – sharp focus areas with unique bokeh effects, strong color saturation, and artful vignettes. It’s a distinct look that goes far beyond using photo editing software and filters.

Fund this project on Kickstarter and help us bring back this extraordinary lens for 21st century photographers and filmmakers!
