The International Photo Fair of Bièvres is held every year during the first weekend of June. A market of artists, antiques, conferences and exhibitions, this annual meeting is a must in the world of photography. Here’s my photo diary of my first visit to the fair with the La Sardina camera.
Founded in 1964 by Jean and André Fage founders of the Photo Club de Paris-Val de Bièvre, this event is organized with the support of the municipality of Bièvres, under the aegis of the Photographic Federation of France. It welcomes every year more than 15,000 visitors. This event takes place for nearly 50 years in Bièvres in Essonne (about 12 km south of Paris). First of its kind and unique in its kind, the Fair Photo Bièvres is rightfully called “the Mecca of photography.”
It is unique opportunity to see vintage cameras, discover new photographers and to exchange some experience with other photo lovers. You can also do bargains buying analogue cameras (in good conditions) for 50, 60 or 70 euros (including good lenses if you manage to negotiate well enough). In Bièvres you can also visit the “Musée de la photographie” with some really good photo exhibitions.
I’ve been to this fair for the first time last June and I had loads of fun. I browsed around the different stalls, saw some photo exhibitions, met up with others photo “amateurs” and saw some amazing vintage cameras! There were music concerts too and as this year’s special guest country was Brazil, there was some Brazilian music. You can also participate to the different auctions held during the two days fair and try to buy some amazing vintage cameras.
To sum up, I can say that I had a really good time and I would strongly recommend to any “lomo lover” that is looking for an analogic photo fair where they could buy vintage cameras in good condition. And It’s a must see event for anyone with an interest in photography!
