Thailand is truly amazing country. A land of sun and bliss. One can’t help but forget of all that troubles him and just enjoy the world around. Sun, sea and palm trees, perfect food, friendly locals and the last but not least, prices low beyond reason – all these are Thailand, a must visit place for everyone.
With the very first step out of the plane a feeling of joy overwhelmed us: we could not believe it’s true that we escaped the gloomy grip of November in Saint-Petersburg. Our destination was Koh Samui and it was another reason to be happy.
Airport was a surprise: no glass, steel and concrete buildings so common for European airports – just tiny bungalows with roofs made of straw and reed. Our smiles become even wider, we anticipate a great stay!
Welcome cocktail at the hotel, friendly staff, spacious rooms with a perfect sea view. Everything was brilliant. The plan for the first few days was as follows: swimming in the sea – swimming in the pool – getting a tan – sea – pool – tan – lunch – tan – tan – dinner. After we fulfilled this complicated course we hired a couple of scooters to scout the vicinities. It is quite possible to cover the whole island’s perimeter in just a couple of hours and there are lots of places worth a closer look. We’ve seen the Big Buddha and hundreds of Khom Fais (sort of fire lanterns) in the dark sky, rode an elephant and dined by the seaside at dusk; we ate shark meat and drank watermelon shake, climbed the pagoda and dived for the colored fish, drank Thai rum and bathed naked at night.
It won’t be an overstatement if I’d say that it was the most exciting vacation in my entire life. We left Thailand with a sad feeling, however we knew firmly that we’ll come back, that’s for sure.
