Speak of landscape photography and you will definitely come across the works of American photographer and environmentalist, Ansel Adams. His impressive black-and-white landscape photos earned him the admiration and respect of photographers past and present, whether involved with landscape photography or not.

Adams took many marvelous monochromes of the American West in large format throughout his career, and one of the best known and admired to this day is the photo above, entitled The Tetons and the Snake River. Taken in 1942 in northwest Wyoming’s Grand Teton National Park, the photo showcases the beauty of the Teton Mountain Range and the Snake River before it, and highlights Adams’ mastery of large format photography and composition for landscapes.

This iconic landscape photography by Adams is one of the 115 images included in the Voyager Golden Records — phonograph records containing sounds and images showing life and culture on Earth — which were included aboard Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 in 1977.
