For today’s featured iconic personality, the spotlight is on American rock vixen Debbie Harry, who, despite being in her late 60’s, remains active and rockin’ in the music industry.
American singer, songwriter, and actress, Deborah Ann “Debbie” Harry just turned 68 on July 1st, but looks like she isn’t done making her very own musical history yet. Harry has been making music since 1965, one of her defining moments being her co-founding of Blondie with her then boyfriend, guitarist Chris Stein in 1974. The band broke up in 1982 but got back together in 1997, and they have remained actively touring since.
Harry and the rock/new wave/punk/disco band were launched into icon status with notable hits such as Call Me, Atomic, and Heart of Glass. As a solo musician, she also released five studio albums and five compilation albums between 1981 to 2007.
Aside from being the sultry rock vixen and face of the band named after her signature bleached locks, Harry also has over 30 film roles and many television appearances in her credit belt, one of the best known being her role as Velma Von Tussle in the original Hairspray flick from 1988!
Her good looks, signature bleached blond locks, and sense of style also earned her a fashion icon status, and artists such as Andy Warhol sought to immortalize her cool image with their works.
