does it mean, that you HAVE TO spent money/cash if you want to use piggies and cannot use them alone anymore?

  2. kazarareta
    kazarareta ·

@mephisto19: yes this is the case

  3. kazarareta
    kazarareta ·

but then again if your piggies exceed the minimum amount you could still purchase items for 'free' excluding shipping/tax costs.

  4. hansie14

This makes me sad. I was hoping to get the filter kit for my Holga and now this means that I'll have to spend more money on something... I'm too poor!

  5. paper_doll
    paper_doll ·

stephan thats a good question but it does say "why not submit 10 LomoLocations and earn 50 tasty piggies then trot over to the shop and get yourself that camera for free?! That’s 100% total savings on one camera for all you math-heads!!"
    so im a bit confused...

  6. hansie14
    hansie14 ·

So does this mean that you can't use say 20 piggies against anything for less than £50?

  7. mephisto19
    mephisto19 ·

  8. kazarareta
    kazarareta ·

@mephisto/paper_doll: sorry misunderstood the question, yes you could still purchase orders entirely w/piggies as long as it's above the $50 amount.

    I have a question ...
For example: the Lomo LC-A+ costs 250 €.
You have 260 piggies, then the Lomo will be free for you. I understand this, but ...
For the 250 €, the shipping is free. When I use 250 piggies ... the shipping cost are free too?
Thanks a lot for your job !!!

  10. kazarareta
    kazarareta ·

@hansie14: This is possible. What aren't possible are these 2 scenarios: 1. Your final checkout order would only be a single roll of film that costs between $5-9 and you pay that with only Piggies. 2. Another scenario is buying a $50 or more camera and slashing out only 5-9 piggies, when the minimum Piggies to be checked out should be 10. does this make anything clearer?

  11. kazarareta
    kazarareta ·

@jaalvarez: shipping is always applied to the value minus the piggies. in this case it is not possible, also applies to other items w/similar 'free shipping' options. technically you get a high-priced camera for free so it's not much of a pain to pay for the shipping :)

  12. hansie14
    hansie14 ·

Erm sorry no! Sorry if I'm just completely missing the point but that seems to contradict what it's saying above... So I'd like to get the Holga filters kit which is around £30 and I have 20 piggies... what happens? Can I just get the filters or would I have to add extra to my order to make it up to £50?

  13. fabyen
    fabyen ·

Does that mean the the location of the week wins the same amount of piggies than any other location published ?

  14. kazarareta
    kazarareta ·

@hansie14: yes you could slash 20 piggies so that leaves you with £10 to pay + shipping/taxes (if applicable.) no need for your order to reach the £50 minimum
@fabyen: nope 10 piggies still, just mentioned some of the ways to earn piggies above. everything's at this section:…

    Oh ok. Thanks kazarareta!

By the way, I love the picture of paperdoll! It's so funny. On the other side, I think I understood everything. In case I misunderstood something, will the shop assistant help you automatically with this? I think that would be perfect to avoid problems.

  17. kazarareta
    kazarareta ·

@disdis: you can try if you can use your piggies with a certain order, if it is not working you will get a message with the problem.

  18. mephisto19
    mephisto19 ·

okay.... so to get it clear again for me... you can spend as many piggies as you have and want on an order if it is over 50 €/usd. shipping cost have to be payed anyways if your cash is less than 200€/usd. (12€/usd/8€/usd)... and if you have 5-9 piggies to spend, you need at least 25€/usd in your cart.... ja?

  19. kazarareta
    kazarareta ·

OK let's re-do this. Things have gotten pretty confusing from our initial post so @everyone, please re-read the post. Our apologies if things didn't seem to be clear.

  20. kazarareta
    kazarareta ·

@hansie14: Sorry but this isn't possible, I'm sorry things got confusing earlier, but the case is that for orders 25-49, you could only use a maximum of 5-9 Piggies to checkout.
@mephisto19: Yes you can spend as many piggies as you want as long as it's more than 50 EUR/USD/GBP. You still have to pay shipping across all limits, including products which are under 'Free Shipping' if you're checking out with piggies. The last thing though (our mistake), is that for 25-49 EUR/USD/GBP, you could only spend 5-9 Piggies. Orders 24 below cannot be used with Piggies.
@eggzakly: Same rules apply for the reviews. We were just breaking down some possible ways to earn them so we didn't list down every single detail - everything on the FAQ are still the correct amounts.
@everyone: yes, there will be an alert system coming soon to the shop re: all of this.

Look at it as inspiration to participate more and earn more and more piggies! The spirit of piggies is that you get them for being an active part of the community, by sharing you tips, reviews, locations, etc. There's no limit to how many you can earn!! :)

maybe, to compensate this, extending expiration rule might be a good idea. then we have more time to earn enough piggies. what do ya think?

  27. ilovemydiana
    ilovemydiana ·

yeah. i think all our piggies should last longer than one month if this is the case.

  28. mephisto19
    mephisto19 ·

maybe you should extend the expiration date really a bit OR create a system that you know, when your articles get published and how long it takes so you know how much time is left, that you have to participate if you don't want your piggies to expire... like a confirmation on your lomohome that only you can see (similar to the piggie bank list) a list of upcoming articles* (*locations, reviews, piggie-worth blogs,...)

  29. snoop
    snoop ·

concerning the piggies: we are giving out so many piggies like we never did before. thats why we had to adjust the rules. but we will dispatch piggies faster, so you can save up on them better. right now there are so many ways to earn piggies, just remember the old site, the only way there was to win a mission, which was once a month! so happy piggy hunting!

  30. kylewis
    kylewis ·

This makes me laugh LSI! you have trimmed the fat from the bacon so much that you are not really allowing anyone any flexibility any more. You may give out more but then the deadlines are shorter so you cant save and now for those that were just approaching a reasonable amount to spend you have cut us off again.
When we use piggies in exchange for a camera the camera is NOT FREE as you suggest we have still 'worked' for it by taking the pic submitting it and giving you use of it on this site, I would call that being paid.
LSI are massive, you must be creaming it in so maybe cutting a bit of slack with those that Make Lomo what it is might be appreciated!!

As most have said "It Sucks" hope the marketeers are happy, your savers are not! :((

  31. snoop
    snoop ·

@kylewis : I think that we are very fair and doing a lot for the community. I dont know any other community that offers all these features for free, where you constantly have prizegivings and other things going on. And the situation now is a lot better to gain piggies. Earlier we gave out prizes for ONE competition a month, now we give out piggies to a TON of people each month. You werent even able to save up piggies in the earlier days because the chances were very slim that you won a competition once or twice, and lomohome of the day was restricted to one or maximum 2 wins. And this is what made the majority of people unhappy. So this is why we rather give out more piggies with a shorter life span as opposed to doing less competitions with a longer time span.

  32. paper_doll
    paper_doll ·

@snoop: thats not really true, ive always been able to save up lots of piggies. when i joined lsi in 2006, a friend of mine had 600 piggies! so that was possible, as long as you wanted to work for them - for example, lomolocations were 10 piggies each! also, the piggies were valid for 3 months. so all in all, i have to say that it was much easier to save piggies in the early days...

  33. paper_doll
    paper_doll ·

when i said early days i meant 4 years ago - i don't know how things were in 2001.
its true that you do give us points, and that's good, but to be fair, we give you our hard work. if you didnt have the point system youd have to have a money system or some other way to reward us, otherwise noone would want to participate in your competitions. i believe youll find much more unhappy people now, specially the ones from the "early days" (i loved those days, i think lsi was much more different).

there are lots of free piggies!!! come on... you cannot say there are none. here a holiday-pig, there a bonus-pig for active users (sometimes even depending on how active they wer: just uploading/posting something/....)... so there ARE ways of getting FREE piggies now with the new site. what defenetly changed are the deadlines piggies expire. that has been cut down to the half or sometimes even a third. sso if you do not want your piggies to expire, you HAVE TO publish at least one thing per month (if it is published within that month). that is okay.... one location OR one review OR winning something... that should be doable. but what i would like, is a system, where it is CLEAR if your work will be published within that time. how often do i read questions in the news-fed of people asking when their location/review/... will be published and piggies will be transfered to the bank.... that is what i am missing: a system (see my earlier post) or tranperancy. it is true also that you give out less piggies than befor for locations 10 earlier, 5 now BUT you added the location of the week- piggies. not for everyone more piggies, but for one person per week, same for film/camera reviews. that iss good. it is not all bad and not all good. but like @snoop said: where is a site that offers so many compüetitions where you can win so many prizes, so many cooperations and have such a good exchange about a thing we all love, photography, than here? where do you find another platform (advertisement-free) that offers that? a platform, that publishes books? a platform, that organizes a group-exposition in MOMA?!?!? that is all amazing work and the change to the new site was neccessary. and we all have to have in mind, that LSI is a COMPANY, that many people are working for them and that they somehow have to pay their bills.... i think it is very good what they are doing and how they reward us. if you are active, you can get piggies. if you are lazy and just wait for free pigs running around the corner, they'll expire and that is your thing.

i share the view of mephisto 19, i think we are still getting enough for "free" if we do something for the community.

  36. mephisto19
    mephisto19 ·

i still have to add that there have been more ways than the missions to win piggies: lhotd, oscm, oktokino

  37. paper_doll
    paper_doll ·

if you read carefully, i didnt say that we get less piggies now. snoop said we werent able to save piggies in the early days, i just said thats not true.
also, about that "group-exposition in MOMA"... has it happed already? i didnt see any pictures or anything.

this really sucks, big time! and it makes me sad, since i am a student and i know that bunch of other people here are students as well, so we are not really big spenders, we don't have enough money, so the whole piggy deal was great for us until now. It is now definitely cheaper for me to buy films and cameras in my country. If you want us to buy anything from your over expensive shop, you could at least offer something in return - like a normal web site without bugs or like a possibility for protecting our photos with copyrights. anyway, this isn't fun anymore, because it's not about enjoying analog photography, now it's all about you LSI making more money and giving as little as you can. Which is very sad, and my involvement here doesn't make any sense. Thanks for the piggies I cannot spend.

  39. zulupt
    zulupt ·

Probably... But locations only worth 5 piggies, camera and film review are cheaper too, and it takes an eternity to get them published; also Oktokino is out for way too many time, at least put old Oktokino site up again, it is kinda disrespectful for sampler camers which I love.
On the other hand, I get more free piggies but in the old days I used to have much more fun earning them.
