Stop Motion Sunday: Slow Derek

We might not feel it, but at 1070 miles per hour, the speed of the Earth’s rotation is pretty staggering for human body. Looking at it, it’s quite a wonder that we’ve managed to hold on and keep up — I guess we have gravity to thank for that!

But unfortunately for Derek, the central character of the award-winning stop-motion short film Slow Derek, he found this piece of information quite overwhelming to say the least.

“[Slow Derek is about] the tale of Derek, an office worker, as he struggles with the true speed of planet Earth.”

This wonderful animated video was directed by Dan Ojari, an animator and director based in London and a graduate of the Royal College of Art, and it has been showcased in various international festivals such as the BFI London Film Festival in 2011 and the Sundance Film Festival in 2012.
