A Monochromatic (And Full-Colour) Recap of Analogue Alberta's 1st Anniversary

2013-05-23 6

At the end of April, Analogue Alberta turned 1. A two-day shooting extravaganza was planned to celebrate this milestone. This meet started in Elbow Falls, Alberta on a Saturday morning, and ended in a classic Irish pub on a Sunday Evening. Share in the celebration through these photos.

On April 27th, weedos and aussenkorrespondent met up with my sister louzislouz and myself in Elbow Falls, Alberta. It was quite a drive for our northern crew members, but there was a valiant analogue mission that needed to be executed. It involved the recreation of found-film from one of weedos’ cameras. I won’t go into the details, as I am sure he will share the results once they are ready. Our other hard-core Analogue Alberta member, yyyhorn, was temporarily MIA, but we had to spin on without him.

After we got our fill of the rugged Canadian wilderness and brisk “Spring” air, we headed into the city to check out a cool art exhibit called Wreck City in the neighborhood of Kensington. A block of homes that are about 100 years old were about to be torn down so that the land could be redeveloped into condos. Local artists got to work on the structures with some insane and creative installations. It was a blast to tour through the houses with these artist enhancements before they were torn down.

At Wreck City, our analogue cameras grabbed the attention, not only of our city’s Mayor, but also of the founders of SEITIES – a locally founded publication dedicated to traditional photography (standby for a separate article on SEITIES).

After a long day of shooting, we needed some different “shots” – in the form of alcohol :) And what made it even better is that aussenkorrespondent wore his lederhosen. It was at this point when that we were finally joined by yyyhorn.

Day 2 of our birthday celebration (which also happened to be Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day) began at a new sculpture in Calgary. The sculpture is a giant wire mesh in front of the newly constructed “Bow” building. This sculpture is named Anna (artist: Jaume Plensa) and is from Northern Spain – to me, it is very reminiscent of the giant head sculptures in Madrid). We were joined by our new SEITIES friends, as well as a newbie to our group (Grant) and my 6-year old niece.

We proceeded to snap throughout downtown Calgary:

And, naturally, we ended the weekend by laughing over a few drinks on a sunny patio:

As always, this Analogue Alberta Adventure was tons of fun. I hope you can all join us the next time :)

Please visit the homes of @weedos @aussenkorrespondent to see more. I know that @louzislouz will be posting her albums very soon, and hopefully @yyyhorn will also be able to post some too.
