Recently I found a big box full of all these old pictures of not only my childhood, but my mother’s childhood as well. Boy, was that a treat, since I had never seen these pictures of her before.
As I was browsing through the pictures, a very nostalgic feeling washed over me. A very happy feeling. All of these memories, half hidden away, resurfaced again. It is often said that things used to be better when we were younger. I now believe that it doesn’t have anything to do with things actually being better as they used to. When we’re experiencing something, often we don’t realize immediately what a great moment it is, even though we enjoy the moment nonetheless. That is why I love photography so much, it gives you the chance to look back on the great moments in your life, and basically lets you relive them.
Looking back on these old pictures I can honestly say I had a very happy childhood.
And that is where my mother comes in to play, because she single-handedly was the cause for all the happiness in my childhood, which I have never realized before. When you’re young you take so much for granted: birthdays, presents, holidays, the food on your plate. It is not until you are a little older that you become so appreciative towards your mother.
She is not only a beautiful person on the inside, I think she was quite beautiful from the outside as well (left)
Here are another few gems I found of my mom
And last but not least, this is a picture of the other mothers in my family. Four generations in one shot. My oldest sister, my mom, my grandma and my great-grandmother.
Lesson of the day: I love my mom.
