A New Experience with Qrro's LomoDiary

2013-05-03 9

We take our film cameras with us mainly because we want to freeze memories and develop them into pictures. That’s normal and done especially with the mundane activities we have in life.

But to experience these memories and translate them into a true analogue experience is a different story. For it does not only capture memories but it also changes people and the way they see things. And that is how this month’s featured LomoDiary have elaborated his story with analogue photography. Interesting, eh? Pretty inspiring, too! So now, let’s pause the talking and read all about it!

Name: César L. Honorio-Arroyo B.
Lomography Username: qrro
Location: Lima, Perú
Number of years as a Lomographer: Almost 3
Number of years in the Community: Maybe 3. I joined the Community before I bought my camera.

Kindly relate to us any memorable experience you’ve had in relation to Lomography.

When I first bought my camera, I didn’t think a lot of people were interested in Lomography. I figured I would be taking photos myself. Thanks to Facebook, I found a group of Lomographers that take photos together. One day I decided to go to one of their meetings. We started talking about cameras, film, photography, and other common interests. It just so happened that we had a lot more in common than I expected. One of them studied in the same university as me, another lived near me, etc. At first we started to get together just to take photos, but after awhile we became good friends: getting together on the weekends, going out for a beer… This is how I met litumai, tere, barbara-barbara, r1c4rd0zk, omarionetas, mafe, among many others. When I met my girlfriend elizabeth2312, she also liked the idea of Lomography and turned into a Lomographer herself when I bought her a camera for Christmas. Lomography, in addition to a lot of new friends, has changed how I experience every day things. Even when I don’t have my camera with me, I am still taking mental pictures of what I see.

Please tell us a story in which Lomography or the Lomographic Community has been a great part of.

One of my favorite bands, Pearl Jam, came to Lima for the first time last year. And of course, I had to be in the front line for the concert. I slept in a car for a whole week to be the first in line at the concert (in the end I was third.) I wanted a memory of the concert but I didn’t want to use my digital camera, I wanted to use my LC-A. The day of the concert, I was worried about things such as the distance from the stage, that the light wasn’t right, that the photos wouldn’t turn out, etc. But in the end I was able to get some really good shots.

What are the emotions that best explain this story?

The night of the concert I was really excited. I couldn’t believe that Pearl Jam was playing in Lima, not to mention so close to my own house. I even took a sign, asking them if I could play a song. At one point during the concert, the guitarist saw my sign, signaled at me with his guitar, and then they played the song that I had on my sign. In that moment I couldn’t believe it all was happenning. For me, this was a really awesome moment, as so many things that I enjoy were involved. I was with a lot of my friends, also fans of Pearl Jam, listening to good music (I also play the guitar) all the while involving analogue photography.

That awesome Pearl Jam experience captured in film!

Any future plans you have that you will let Lomography play a part? Please share!

I want to travel to Cusco to take infrared photos of Machu Picchu. I went a year ago, specifically for this reason, but the photos didn’t turn out that well. I still want to take these photos, as it’s one of the wonders of the world. Since I live so close, I want to share what I think could be really amazing photos for the place and the type of film I want to use.

I bought a horse and a unicorn mask to play with my girlfriend and one day we decided to use them — we went to this parking lot above a supermarket with another friend and started shooting. I asked my girlfriend to wear the mask and go shopping! :p

This is one of my favourite pictures! Two of my best friends and a radio! We were having some beer in a beach house and I remember thinking “Let’s try a double!” It’s one of my first doubles and it turned out really good, I think!

As an LC-A/Lubitel user, light leaks are not an everyday “accident” so one time I tried to get leaks on purpose and this is one of my favorites from that session.

The colors, the sharpness, the vignette, I simply love this picture! Once again, my girlfriend as a model. :p

“The end of the world”, “The Armaggedon”, “The reveal of a creature” are some of the comments this picture got. This is a large exposure of a fountain in a park and this photo became one my most popular photos very quickly.
