Ready for another day trip with Lomography? Then get ready, because we’re heading for the city nicknamed as “the tavern of the seas”, Cape Town, South Africa. Spes bona!
Cape Town, South Africa is the second most populated city in South Africa and is the country’s most popular tourist destination.
One of the most striking features of this city is view of the magnificent Table Mountain. Don’t let the silly name fool you though – Table Mountain got its name thanks to its near vertical cliffs and flat-topped summit – it truly is a wonderful sight!
In fact, if you would like to wake up to this wonderful view on your window, one of our community members recommends the Victoria and Alfred Hotel located on the Waterfront Pierhead or its nearby sister property, the Dock House Hotel.
Another attractive peak overlooking the city is the Lion's Head, where one can reach the top in about an hour.
If you’re not one for the mountains, there’s always… the beaches! Cape Town has a plethora of spots where you can cool down by the shores like Clifton Beach, which is technically a set of four beaches called First, Second, Third and Fourth respectively…
…Boulders Beach in Simon’s Town, where you can take a chance to spot a colony of African penguins…
Speaking of sunsets, you can also catch a wonderful sunset at Dolphin Beach! Positioned right across the city centre, you’ll also be treated to a great view of the surrounding peaks!
If anything, there’s always the complex of open-water swimming pools over at the waterfront at Sea Point.
But before you take a dip, why not take a nice walk over at the quirky seaside village of Kalk Bay just off the outskirts of Cape Town?
