Nogaledas Canyon: Where Rough Nature Meets Extreme Sport

My guy and I have a very different hobbies. As much as he is into extreme sports, that’s how much I prefer the exact opposite, things like reading and crochet. But that doesn’t mean you can’t spend a great day together. Let me show you how to join two hobbies as diverse as canyoning and Lomography.

Nogaledas Canyon lies right on a heavily-visited tourist trail, close to Navaconcejo in Cáceres. Experienced adventurers say it is not a huge canyon, but rather the ideal place for newbies to get acquainted with this thrilling sport.

Perfect for a newbie or not, I didn’t make the descent the same way the brave ones did. But thanks to the walking trail, I could accompany the adventurers on their way down and take lots of pictures. It is impressive to see how they descent from steep walls with such ease. Even the water pouring down on their heads didn’t seem to bother them! Me, suffering from vertigo, have nothing but admiration for those canyoneers!

The surrounding region is ideal for photographers, with some spectacular landscapes that will make your lomo-heart beat faster. Any time of the year is a good time for a visit. But especially in spring, when the cherry trees start blossoming, Jerte Valley is the place to be!

Just a tip: even though your just heading to Nogaledas Canyon to take pictures, I advise you to put on good hiking boots and take a hat and sunscreen with you.

Here you can find more information about the canyon and the rappelling club.

You can find more general information about Jerte Valley on this page.
