Do you want to scan your negatives a different way? I have the solution, you don’t even need a scanner! Just keep reading and you’ll see! :)
First, just let me tell you how I found this way of scanning!
We’re now back in September 2011, I had just arrived in Saltillo (north of Mexico). I broughT my roll of Kodak Portra VC 160 to a store to get it process and scanned but when I went back to pick up my photos, they told me that their scanner was broken and they didn’t know when it would be fixed ( which means, probably never.)
So I was there with my negatives but without a scanner..
After a few days, I got an idea, and here is what I did:
I just scanned them through my WINDOW!
How? It’s easy, you just need:
- Your negatives.
- A digital camera.
- Photoshop or another photo software.
- A window
- Some blue tack (or something to stick the negatives on the window).
- If it’s possible, a white wall behind the window, or a clear area.
- Some sun.
So now that we have this ready, this is how we do:
You stick a negative on the window when the sun is shining against the wall,
Take a picture of it,
Upload it on your computer
Open Photoshop and retouch your photos (inverting the colours)
And it’s all done! :)
Here are the results I got.
