Every year at the end of August, I prepare my suitcase and head to Romarís. This charming little town will always be the home I return to. For a few days, all calendars are cleared and agendas emptied, and as I spend some time with my “family”, time appears to be standing still.
It is very hard to find a truly unique place. If you’re lucky, you’ll find a place as special as this one is to me. The lovely town of Romaris is the place to which I hold my best childhood memories. I know this town inside out — I know every rock, every stream, every tree and every smell. How I love to come back here!
Romarís is a very small village, with only 15 houses and about 47 inhabitants. Such a small community makes it feel as a single family. I have been coming here every year, all my life, staying at my grandparents’ house. Everyone here has seen me grow up… with a camera around my neck!
The main trade in the village is agriculture. Everyone has animals, plows their land and grows their own food. And believe me, everything that grows there is top-quality and boasts with flavor. My family has a small barn where we raise pigs, chickens and dairy cows. We even have some horses.
As you could have guessed, living on the countryside, we also have lots of pets. These are Fructuoso, Pumuqui and Rufus, the most loyal pets I have ever seen!
But the most special thing that Romarís holds for me, is my cousin Clara, the most beautiful girl in the world! She is smarter and wittier than you could imagine and she isn’t afraid of anything. She could run around the world, end to end, without getting tired. And on top of it all, she always has the loveliest smile for me!
If you would like to come over for a visit, you are more than welcome. You’ll feel like you had arrived in a parallel universe, I swear!
