Hi, Christina a.k.a. ravingsockmonkey! What made you decide to get a tattoo of a camera?

I wanted a tattoo to show off my love for photography, and I went with the Diana F+ because I’ve always been inspired by how beautiful it is. It was the first film camera that I bought on my own. My first ever was a Kodak 110 camera that was given to me when I was younger.

How did you come up with the delightful Diana F+ design?

I took my Diana F+ into the shop for tatoo artist Chris to sketch and honestly, I was expecting a very basic and straightforward interpretation. It was hard leaving the camera there, but he wanted to really be able to get the detail on it. Chris blew me away with what he came up with! It was bigger than I had imagined, but the design was so awesome that I went with it. I think he had a lot of fun doing it too! Even the other artists in the shop were checking it out.

What was the inking process like?

I got the finishing touches put on the tattoo on August 7th, 2010. It took three sessions which ended up being around 6 hours or so total. Chris at Bleed Blue Tattoo in Lexington, KY did the work. He’s great!

So how’s life with a Diana F+ etched on your arm?

It really attracts attention when I’m wearing short sleeves and its a great way to start up conversations. I love my Diana F+, and I’m glad that I can always have it with me even when I’m not actively shooting with it. It’s three years old now, and looks just as good as when I got it.

Any projects/new tattoos you’re working on now?

I haven’t gotten to shoot film in a bit because I was out of work, but I did recently and it felt great! I also found a roll that I had taken right before a move that was about 2 years old, maybe 3. I’m not sure what’s on it now, or what camera it was even taken with. I really want to get some more 120 film for my Diana, and I can’t wait until the LomoChrome Purple film is released. That’s going to be so much fun. I wish I hadn’t of missed out on the pre-sale!

The Diana F+ is a new twist on the ‘60s classic cult camera. Famous for its dreamy and soft-focused images, the Diana F+ is now packed with extra features such as panorama and pinhole capabilities. Available in our Online Shop.
