2013-03-24 1

Two hand-drawn guys fight to the paper death on this hilarious animated short for this week’s Stop Motion Sunday. Check it!

“Paper Diaosi* living in a white paper world always has nothing to do. One day, he sees an amazing beauty living on the opposite side of his building. When he is about to propose, the second Paper Diaosi shows up, it makes him furious. In order to get the beauty’s love, the two Paper Diaosi begin to fight each other. Time pasts every second. The beauty starts to lose [patience]. Who will win her love?” — Synopsis, Paper War

Paper War is a funny six-minute stop-motion animated short film made by a team of animation students from the Communication University of China. And while the premise of the story could’ve been better, it’s still really fun to watch!

*Diaosi in Chinese means someone who is young, poor, miserable but never loses hopes for a better [life].

Chlorophyll Prints by Binh Danh: An Interview

In the work of Binh Danh, art is space for the unnamed to be seen. When war is the theme every detail counts. How does one person tackle this massive issue, where death and the value of lives intersect? A one-man job becomes a job about other men. And so for his series "Immortality: The Remnants of the Vietnam and American War" he made chlorophyll prints to express the indelible mark of war on various lands. Soldiers and laymen whose faces and records have been archived are given another chance to be remembered.

    Photographic Pairs

When a photographer encounters a pair, an instinct rushes in, "Is this a special, intimate moment I just stumbled on?" Or else, those accidents of two objects, two birds, two swaying plants camping together especially for your photo. This might not be the case, but it's still a pleasant thing for patterns and quirks to find their way into an everyday shot.

Lomography Asks: Is It Acceptable to Photograph the Homeless?

"Is it acceptable to photograph the homeless?" is one of the most hotly-debated topics when it comes to street photography. There are two opposing sides to this: those who believe it is, and those who don't. For those who do, capturing such photographs is mere documentation of the world around us. For those who don't, doing so is a form of exploitation.

Vintage Gallery: Headpieces from Around the World

A hat is in the position to be noticed before any other item of clothing. Its shape and texture can immediately call to mind cultural associations. A cloche is to 1920s fashion as a picture hat is to the 1900s. The wide-brimmed or fur-lined variety, on the other hand, is more functional for tribes.
