Veracruz, Veracruz

Veracruz is one of the hottest cities (literally) in the east coast of Mexico, with lots of stuff to see, do and eat.

Veracruz is one of the coolest cities in the country (in my opinion) although in summer it gets VERY hot. Veracruz was the first port/harbour/whatever you call it in Mexico, founded by the Spaniards (led by Hernán Cortéz) in 1519 when they arrived.

Veracruz has been and still is one of the most important harbours/ports/whatever you call it of Mexico, it’s a pretty pretty city with many things to do and see. You can take a walk by the sea while you see the statues, buy (probably) pirate Ray Ban sunglasses, take pictures of the boats and buy some local food (which is very good [like all Mexican food]).

Some of the must see spots are the aquarium (you can look for it on the lomolocations), the San Juan de Ulúa fort, the levee (or whatever you call the road that goes next to the sea), and the Café del Portal, here you can sit down and relax while you listen to the marimbas and drink their renown white coffee (which is served in a very special manner).

People here are very friendly, when I was here last summer (it was like the third stop of a road trip I made with two friends) we met an old lady outside of a dance academy, she told us a lot about the typical dances (which are wicked cool [as is the music]) and kind of introduced us to the owner/director of the dance school, who was on his way out. The street art in the city centre also is (in my opinion) quite cool, as well as the public transport and the markets (Mexican markets and buses are very peculiar [or so I consider them])
