As you know from my previous articles, I love swimming, I love being in the water, and I love being outdoors. And this year, for my spring and Easter break, I don’t need to go very far because just a few miles from my house, there is a small lake on which one can go canoeing — a “paradise” for amateur and sports club members.
The Lake of Pusiano is located about 10 km Southeast of my city Como. Although my city is famous for its great lake, the region of Pre-Alps where I live is full of other smaller but equally beautiful lakes that are rather quiet, in which makes it a pleasure to take a bath or canoeing.
Apart from a few boats, the lake is populated mainly by kayakers and rowing practitioners. This lake is also the training place of the athletes of the Canottieri Lario, a sport club famous for its Olympic and World Champions, from Giuseppe Sinigaglia to Daniele Gilardoni.
The almost absence of ferries, speed boats and hydrofoils allows you to have fun in the calm and quiet waters, without the annoying wave motion caused by these motor vehicles.
These images, taken with my Lomo LC-A, give you an idea of the serenity of this place.
On the banks, you can see beautiful natural and wild vegetation.
The lake is equipped for the launching of the canoes at different points of its banks; the access is easy even for the beginners.
A route marked by buoys indicates the training path used by sports clubs.
The lake has a surface area of 5.20 square kilometrers and a maximum depth of 27 meters. A little “paradise” to canoeing, to fishing and to take a break in an oasis of peace!
A large area of Lake Pusiano is safe for swimming, and in summer you can associate a beautiful canoe trip with a refreshing bath. In recent years, the presence of harmful algae in some areas has limited the bathing zones of the lake.
This phenomenon is temporary and occurs only during periods of very hot temperatures, which can cause excessive growth of algae. Local authorities regularly check the water, generally very good, indicating readily these exceptions. Have fun in Pusiano!
