In this second to the last of a series of videos, photographers Scott Schuman and Steve McCurry talk about managing photography schedules and projects, as well as McCurry’s recent project: the 2013 Pirelli Calendar — of which you can read more about after the jump.
The “Pirelli project” that was mentioned later on in the video pertains to the annual trade calendar issued by the multi-national company Pirelli, and famous for its limited availability and consisting of glamorous photographs and portraits taken by well-known photographers.
For the 2013 calendar, Pirelli has commissioned McCurry to shoot models like Adriana Lima, Isabeli Fontana and Petra Nemcova against the backdrop of the vibrant Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
Bernhard Rauscher's passion for light painting photography is as vibrant as his creations. His light paintings are either craftily executed renditions of things you see in everyday life, or fanciful abstract figures. He uses do-it-yourself devices made from water bottles and tinsel as light painting tools. Part of his collection of magical devices is the Pixelstick, which he talks about in this exclusive interview.
Editing pictures with image manipulation software or a mobile app is not unheard of. An alienation of photos by needle and thread, on the other hand, is an intricate process. Los Angeles-based artist and photographer Diane Meyer has gained instant fame for her embroidered analog photos. In this interview, she talks about adding a new dimension to pictures as well as her source of inspiration and other projects.
Jack Lowe has been traveling round the UK with the aim to shoot every RNLI post using Wet Plate Collodion photography. The Lifeboat Station Project photography is a five-year photographic mission that makes use of a painstaking process. It is a fascinating, much talked about project that deserves to be documented, not just through words but through images as well.
Photographer Sean is currently based in Taiwan. He focuses on American lifestyle, as well as street and editorial fashion. We can always see the beauty and humor of life in his works. In this interview, he talks about the attractions and highs of taking instant pictures.
