Wanting to escape the urban stress you’re having? Then why not explore this secret hideout where dreamers hang out!
This secret place in Vienna is Cobenzl. Don’t think it’s easy to reach, no-no (it’s a secret place after all)! Rent a scooter, take the Höhenstraße (great serpentine street for driving like crazy) and get a person of your choice to come with you up there. Now you reach a point where the street splits. You could go to the right in the direction of the Cobenzl-restaurant, but we don’t want that. There is also a way to the left, a narrow way going down … but we don’t want that either! Now do you see a little gate, behind which you could see vineyards and Vienna lying at your feet? Enter the gate and walk down about 100 metres until you find yourself in the middle of white and red grapes and you got a free view of the Danube, the Stephansdom, the Riesenrad and the general hospital (of which it’s always good to know where that one is!). Get yourself an old cassette recorder with romantic jazz music, a bottle of white Riesling wine and black bread with cheese and grapes (don’t worry about the latter, you’ll get them directly from the Garden of Eden, you are sitting in). BUT BEWARE, the farmer comes at 5.30 in the morning with his tractor and as soon as he sees strangers lying around, he will use his poison and spray it directly at you.
