Pulau Ketam: A Convenient Break From the City

The city can get too much at times, especially when everything is about being fast and constantly at speed. So where does one go especially when you need a one-day break without costing your wallet too much? I have the pleasure of visiting Pulau Ketam one weekend and it was definitely a good escape.

The weather was perfect. It was bright and sunny, and there were seven of us on a “mission” to break away from the city for a day. According to my friend, Pulau Ketam promises tons of cycling routes amidst the wooden “floating” houses. I thought my Lomography La Sardina “The Guvnor” and Fisheye No. 2 Voyager will fit the trip just right!

Pulau Ketam is a fishing village and when literally translated means “Crab Island”. It is an island located off the coast of Klang and one can get there easily by ferry from the jetty in Port Klang.

Pulau Ketam is the best opportunity for visitors to witness and experience the unique lifestyle of fishermen. For those who fancies a stay in the fishing village, homestay facilities are readily available. Bring along the barbeque pit to spice your stay up a little.

The “floating houses” will be among the attractions that wow the city slickers.

The first must-do once you reach Pulau Ketam is to immediately rent a bicycle, and cycle off merrily with your friends! We had the time of our life by just cycling endlessly and just being carefree.

We found ourselves transported back in time amidst the vintage wooden houses, away from the hassle of technology.

One will surely be drawn to look at the mudskippers jumping everywhere. The downside of Pulau Ketam is the poor management and therefore the place wasn’t properly taken care of.

It surely was fun to spend time with my friends cycling and laughing at just about anything. I definitely see myself returning in the near future if I ever need the mini-break again.
