Prince's Islands, Istanbul,Turkey

so beautiful! so peaceful! so quiet!

Being in Istanbul, please do not miss the Princes’ Islands (a chain of nine islands off the coast of Istanbul in the Sea of Marmara). The islands are incredibly peaceful compared with the city of Istanbul, trees, bays and horse-drawn carriages – all these things are unbelievably beautiful!!

The islands are just a short ferry ride from both the Asian (at Bostancı and also Kartal) and European sides (from Sirkeci/Eminönü, Kabataş and Yenikapı) of Istanbul. Most ferries call in turn at the four largest of the nine islands: Kınalıada, Burgazada, Heybeliada and finally Büyükada. It was such a pleasure to sail on a ferry to the islands. I was sitting on the open air deck, enjoing the sun and the wind and drinking delicious tea, served in small glasses in a bar, which is located on the ferry)) Also you can buy there delicious beniseed breads a lot of other delicious things! If you have some bread left, you can feed the seagulls, which are following the ferries, waiting for some food.

We only had time to visit one of the islands:
Heybeliada ‘Island of the Saddlebag’, because of its shape, is loved for its natural beauty and beaches. Cars (save for service vehicles like school buses or ambulances) are all banned on the islands, the most popular way of getting around is horse-drawn carriages. So please do not forget to take enough film with you, cause you’ll shoot non-stop!

One of the island’s best-known landmarks is the Greek Orthodox School of Theology, with an important collection of Byzantine manuscripts. The school sits loftily on the northern hill, but permission is needed to enter, from the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate in Fener. The Deniz Harp Okulu, the Naval High School, is on the east side of the waterfront near the jetty, which was originally the Naval War Academy set up in 1852, then a high school since 1985. Walking and cycling are popular here, plus isolated beaches as well as the public Yoruk Beach, set in a magnificent bay.
But even without visiting these sights, you’ll enjoy your visit to the island as well! You can just walk along the beautiful pine parks, along the beaches and houses. Local cats will meet you with great interest, especially if you have some food with you)) The way back in the dark sea full of lights coming from the islands and other ferries and boats was SO beautiful and romantic! I wish I can visit the islands once again some day.
