The Hong Kong Trail Stage 8 was voted as the No.1 hiking track in Asia back in 2004. It goes along the Dragon’s Back, where you can see the beautiful scenery of Shek O and Stanley.
The Dragon’s Back is a walk that lies within the Shek O Country Park, along the ridge of the Shek O Peak in Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. The whole stage of the tail includes the Dragon’s Back and also a walk to Big Wave Bay, which is 8.5 km in total, taking about 3 hours to complete. If you are a keen hiker, then by all means finish the whole stage. However, you can walk back to Tai Tam Gap after descending from Shek O Peak. The whole walk will be reduced to about 5 km.
Here are some of the spectacular scenes.
You are able to see the view of both Stanley and Shek O from the ridge.
The walk to the peak is not too difficult.
When you get to Big Wave Bay, have a walk on the beach.
To get to the starting point of the trail, take bus No. 9 from Shau Kei Wan MTR Station, and get off at To Tei Wan Bus stop. If you leave from Big Wave Bay, you can either take the No.9 Bus or the minibus back to Shau Kei Wan MTR Station.
Personally, I think the track is ideal for hiking for any type of person because it is not too steep. Without any doubt, it is my favourite hiking trail in Hong Kong, as you will get the best of both worlds-both the views of Tai O and also Stanley. It is also quite an easy track and the feeling of walking along the ridge (i.e. the Dragon’s Back) is simply spectacular!
