Perfect Combination: Lomo LC-A+ and Fuji Provia 400X

I had a dream: using slide film indoors without a flash, a tripod or a B setting. This is the perfect match that made my dream come true, the wonderful Lomo LC-A+ and the amazing Provia 400X!

Don’t get me wrong. I love slide film, I really do. But I also love shooting indoors with natural light, and this can be quite an issue as most slide films have a really low ISO. I’ve tried many slide films in my past three years as a Lomographer, and whenever shooting indoors, the results were disappointing, to say the least. Most photos didn’t even turn out.

As you can see from this index of a roll of Lomo X-Pro 200, all the pictures taken indoors without a flash were just…well, black.

After many discouraging trials with different kinds of slide film (Lomo Chrome 100, X-Pro 200, Velvia 100 and many others), I mostly used my LC-A+ “Russia Day” with high-ISO film, and I can say I’ve always been overall satisfied with the results, but as I still wanted my pictures to get the “Lomo Look,” I decided to try with another film off my stock: Fuji’s Provia 400X. And I’m oh so glad I did!

I guess the legendary Lomo LC-A+ doesn’t need a formal introduction… it’s the compact, versatile, cult camera that started it all, the king of cameras for any Lomographer which prefers 35mm over 120. I own a Russia Day, which boasts a russian lens, but any LC-A/LC-A+ will do!

Provia 400x currently is the fastest slide film on the market, it’s quite expensive and not too easily available in my area but it really comes in handy when you’re in a dim lit restaurant…

Or when you’re sipping a hot espresso during a cloudy afternoon.

When you’re enjoying a lazy morning in a hotel room…

Or even a lazy afternoon.

When you’re walking around in Piccadilly Circus like a tourist and the sky is overcast…

But it will do well even when the weather’s good.

It’s the go-to slide film when you’re hanging out with your friends at your favorite bar…

Or right outside your favorite bar… even at 11pm!

When you’re feeling “experimental”…

Or when a drunk friend steals your camera and starts taking pictures of himself punching ghosts in the dark!

When you’re waiting at Leicester Square tube station…

Or when you’re playing hide and seek in empty corridors!

I even tried to take some pics at a gig, and guess what? They didn’t turn out 100% black!

I know I said I’m not a fan of flash, but every now and then it’s okay to play with Colorsplash gels…

I love love love this combo! I like the blue/green, saturated pictures you get by cross-processing this film! I think it makes the perfect match when paired with the LC-A. Just look at the vignetting in this (very cliché) photo!

I highly recommend you this combo if you wish to get the Lomo Look in any lighting condition!
