If you’re looking for a nice weekend getaway, Northport is your answer! It’s a small cottage town located on the western tip of the Grand Traverse Bay, it provides a great canvas for some lake/rugged-themed for photography.
The quaint village of Northport lays at the end of the miraculous West-Bay Shore Drive, which follows the coast of the west arm of the Grand Traverse Bay. About a 5-hour drive from Chicago and Detroit, the village allows an urban escape without being a million miles away. Arriving into town, you will notice sleepy cottages, family run stores, and an awesome bakery.
Grand Traverse Bay is on Lake Michigan, which is an absolutely beautiful and immense body of fresh water. The daily traffic of boats and wild life provides opportunity for stunning photographs, as well as being fun to watch and go swimming in.
As you may notice, I was indecisive whether I’ll be shooting with color or black and white. I just couldn’t decide, something that magnificent can’t be described in either medium!
I hope to someday return to Northport again. I believe that I didn’t take advantage of the scenery as much as I would now want to; maybe next summer ,but for now that seems fairly distant. Would I recommend this location for shooting? Absolutely, without a doubt. I hope to see some other shots from this area. The area is absolutely stunning!
