Introducing LomoChrome Purple - A Color Negative Film That Yields Infrared Results!

108

Ready for the latest Lomographic Film sensation? We have some fantastic news for you! We’re excited to introduce you to our latest emulsion – LomoChrome Purple. It’s an awesome color negative film which gives naturally infrared results! Limited stock is available for pre-order, in 35mm and 120 formats. Delivery is guaranteed in July 2013 for most countries.

Today, we’re thrilled to give you a first look at our extra-exciting new film, LomoChrome Purple 400!

We know what you are thinking. “Hasn’t Aerochrome production stopped?”; well, as you can see, LomoChrome Purple (35mm and 120) is capable of producing stunning results just like color infrared films; but the great thing is that this is actually a regular color negative film which gives infrared results without the bother of having to use additional filters – This clever film produces these picture-perfect photos totally naturally.

Pre-Order LomoChrome Purple 35mm | Pre-OrderLomoChrome Purple 120

See the majestic difference – the photos shown here are taken with the LomoChrome Purple, followed by a snapshot taken with a regular Color Negative film.

Only limited stock is available for pre-order with a July 2013 delivery guaranteed*. This is the very first batch of this film; pre-order now and you’ll get your hands on it before anyone else. The first batch of films will have a special note to prove you are one of the original LomoChrome photographers – Also, as this will be the very first batch produced, the results of this run could give you unique results compared to when it goes into mass-production! LomoChrome Purple is priced at great value compared to infrared films which are still available.

The Community Favorite

We listened to all the feedback from the Lomography community that this is a type of film you would love and developed LomoChrome Purple based on this. The film is available in both 35mm and 120 formats and will enable you to take beautiful analogue shots with that infrared look we all love for years to come.

We have 4000 rolls of LomoChrome Purple 120 and 3500 rolls of LomoChrome Purple 35mm available for pre-order in the Lomography Online Shop. These rolls are currently only available in bundles so you can treat yourself to a bunch of films at a great price!

This first batch of films will be available for delivery in July 2013*. The reason the film will take a little while to be delivered is that your order will help finance this exciting first production and LomoChrome Purple takes a little bit longer to manufacture than your average emulsion.

The photos you see here are the very first samples we have; we can’t wait to show you more in the coming weeks! Whilst you’re waiting for the latest LomoChrome Purple shots, why not check out some awesome Aerochrome photos to inspire you.

Pre-Order LomoChrome Purple 35mm | Pre-Order LomoChrome Purple 120

Please Note: Your card will be charged when you place your pre-order. By pre-ordering, you will help finance the first production of one of the most exciting Lomographic film launches in history!

*Unfortunately, we can’t guarantee delivery for customers in Brazil and Russia for July 2013

Great, super looks . Please Lomography could you do an edition of Color Negative with a better quality for the most demanding tastes? An emulation of Kodak Portra 400 for example. Would be great.

Pre-ordered some - always wanted to try Aerochrome but the cost meant I didn't feel confident enough to get the best out of it, and while I'm sure this won't be quite the same, it's along the same lines!

@zoezo - No, the film produces these results totally naturally with no need for additional lens filters :-) It is color negative and is developed using regular C-41

  41. simonh82
    simonh82 ·

@snoop is it actually an infrared sensitive film or just a film with manipulate emulsion layers to give 'IR like' effect. The article doesn't make this clear. If it is really IR film, that is amazing. If not please let us know before we put our money down.

  42. zoezo
    zoezo ·

  43. carsten-schmitt
    carsten-schmitt ·

I have the same question as @simonh82. Is it a really IR film, e.g. having a filter layer on the film material?
Comparing it to Aerochrome I am not convinced. This one seems to turn all green into a purple-ish colour, whereas Aerochrome would only do that to greens stemming from chlorophyl. I mean, that was the main purpose of that film: Showing that enemy thank with its green paint under the green bushes or trees. ;-)
Don't get me wrong: I think "Purple" looks very cool but I would prefer some more transparency and less vagueness in the description of this film

Must agree with @carsten-schmitt and @simonh82. I really want to feel excited about this but I'm not sure if there is a reason for that... Anyway, it is great to know Lomography is producing films, congrats!! And of course, I'll have to try this one! :D

  47. meatoyz1

Whether it is a faux-IR film or not is, to me, not really important. What is more important and impressive to me is that Lomography Society is constantly developing new stuff for us enthusiasts and not just reselling or rebranding past emulsions. Thanks Lomography! :) I pre-ordered 15 rolls and hopefully it will be available before my bday on the 6th of July haha!

What a bargain? This is when I feel what means to be Portuguese these days... 9.40€ a 35mm roll and 11.30€ 120 roll is very expensive to my standards!! Gonna buy it anyway... but it is expensive! :P

looks nice but to be honest: i usually don´t buy rolls for more than 10€. i would maybe for a single roll. 120 is really expensive. close to polaroid.

  57. saidseni
    saidseni ·

@bloomchen: Agree!! @snoop: We can't use piggies do buy the new film?

  58. adash
    adash ·

@saidseni it is still 1/5 of what expired rolls of aerochrome are worth now. The reason I never shot Aerochrome - I can't afford it! Now for the price of one roll of expired Aerochrome, I can get five rolls of this pure awesomeness! AND it is 400ASA, fresh, which means I can expose it in whatever plastic camera I decide!
@snoop @tomas_bates I hope you understand how HUGE this is! I am very happy to see you do something that hasn't been done in years: Develop a new film emulsion!

  59. saidseni
    saidseni ·

@adash: Yes, but this is not infrared, it just tries to achieve the similar results, which is nice too! I also thought of my plastic cameras but they will have to wait soooo long...! Anyway, a fresh new emulsion is just great so congrats to LSI again! :) Still, no piggies? :/

  60. adash
    adash ·

@saidseni Yep, no IR, but that's a great start! I hope that at some point @lomography will come up with a real IR sensitive layer in such a film and we shall all go to Lomography paradise.
No piggies indeed, but my credit card was so excited it jumped straight out of the wallet when she saw the mind-blowing samples!

  61. roxanneross
    roxanneross ·

i think this is a nice start :) a bit expensive, but interesting. i'll wait for the mass production to see more results, but i want to try it! i hope this is the beginning of a new series of lomography films! every day i feel that film-wise there's less and less readily available to experiment with!

  62. ditchbitch
    ditchbitch ·

I'd like to try these kodak slide inrared films, but it's doesn't make any sense here, in Russia. It's very hard even to process it, not to mention that film in package will be completely light-leaked by scanners at customs. So, clearly it's not a real infrared film, but it's nice alternative to it - judging by colors and no need to use special filters. Really wanna try it, can't wait to get my hands on it )

  63. bloomchen
    bloomchen ·

@saidseni yes, using piggies with it would be nice. don´t get me wrong @LSI we are - and you now that - yearning for new stuff. more than ever i guess with kodak going down south. it looks really great i must say and because it´s so expensive i´m kinda torn between 120 and 35mm. i mean 35 is more bang for the buck but i hardly shoot 35mm. i´m on 120 but this is really a price that is not in my budget. including developing it´s 1€ per pic. 35mm is about 1/3 of it.

Will Lomography consider producing an IR-sensitive film? Not to dismiss the work that goes into bringing a new emulsion online production-wise, but engineering-wise this is simply a matter of mismatching sensitizers with dye couplers in the emulsion layers. An IR-sensitive colour film would be amazing.
