Casa Batlló: The Most Poetic Building in Barcelona

2009-11-27 16

Maybe the most inspiring and romantic compositions Gaudi produced in his life.

I will not explain the figures of this great building but my feelings about it. If you want to know more, just visit the web http://www.casabatllo.es/. Just one recommendation: 18.4 million tourist visit Barcelona each year. If you want to visit one of the most visited places, wake up early in the morning or go late in the evening. The light is better and makes you avoid lining up.

Two years ago I moved to another city but for the 6 previous years I used to live in Barcelona, just 300 mt. from this incredible house. Every morning, when going to work I used to go down the metro station in front of Casa Batllo thinking – This weekend I will visit that place- But years went by and I left Barcelona.

Last weekend I went to Barcelona to meet some friends and finally decided to visit it. The first impressions are being transported to another world. Maybe a water world reigned by Julius Verne’s Nautilus. All those blue reflections, impossible ripples and the non-straight shapes gives to the feeling of being in an imaginary future. Imaging this beautiful building was created more than 100 years ago tells you that, maybe, and just maybe, the past was always better.

When you start to go up to the light well you realize Gaudi knew exactly what he wanted, without plans he was able to define every detail of the house. Not only the room walls but also the wood used, the mirrors…. everything was drawn in his mind. Sometimes, you can even listen to the breath of sea refreshing the place. What a genius brain he had.

And when you reach the top of the roof, then the beautiful chimneys wave at you as slates cover the roof with colorful fish scales. I think this building cannot be described but seen by yourself.
